Executive Director Caitlin Malloy was invited to join the Boston Area Reggio Inspired Network’s Board of Directors.

October 2022

Newtowne faculty collectively refreshed their passion for early childhood in a reflective professional development workshop entitled ‘The Image of the Educator’, led by Ron Grady, a Board of Directors member and founder of Childology.


September 2022

The Boston Area Reggio Inspired Network awarded the Newtowne School Leadership Team a grant to establish an inquiry group that will explore how Reggio-inspired education is experienced by Dual Language Learners, their families, and their teachers.

August 2022

New teachers Vaidehi Desai (Blue Otter Co-Teacher), Danielle Hart (Orange Sea Star Co-Teacher), and Elizabeth Barber (All-School Teacher) joined the Newtowne faculty.


Teacher Jenna Rounds was accepted into Lesley University’s ‘Innovative Pedagogies in Early Childhood’ graduate program.

July 2022

Director Caitlin Malloy was invited to join the City of Cambridge’s task force to advise on implementation of a high quality universal pre-K program in Cambridge in the coming years.

Teacher Perry Gulden was accepted into the ‘Innovative Early Childhood Education’ graduate program, a partnership between Boulder Journey School and University of Colorado, Denver.

Newtowne welcomed educators from the Quinsigamond Community College Children’s School in Worcester, MA for a tour and conversation about classrooms and outdoor spaces.




 

June 2022

The Newtowne community voted in a new Board of Directors slate, which included new members Megan Teodosio (VP), Steffan Berlowitz (VP), Audrey Gutfreund (VP), Jay Dave (Treasurer), Megan Akkina (Fundraising Chair), and Ron Grady (Member-at-Large).  


Newtowne School was featured by WBUR for its efforts to confront the child care crisis on a local level.

May 2022

Child, family, and faculty members of the Newtowne Community participated in ‘A Day without Childcare’ by writing down their ideas about what a day without Newtowne would be like, and mailing to legislators to advocate for government support for equitable early education.

April 2022

Cambridge in Motion awarded Newtowne School a mini-grant to implement a Community-Centered Edible Garden project on the Newtowne playground.


Director Caitlin Malloy presented a workshop entitled ‘Moving away from the Kitchen Corner: Authentically and Meaningfully Expanding Sociodramatic Play’ at Cambridge’s Week of the Young Child conference.
